Conversation | On Strategies of Fugitivity in Societies of Control and Surveillance by Françoise Vergès and Kader Attia

Decolonial feminist activist and independent scholar Françoise Vergès, and artist Kader Attia, founder of La Colonie in Paris, a space for decolonizing discourses and practices, will engage in a conversation around current configurations of colonial extraction, racialized labor, and neoliberal regimes of control and desire. They will discuss the ways in which the arts are captured and pacified in this context, exploring forms of radical imagination in which futurity and fugitivity play a central role.

Françoise Vergès is an independent scholar, a decolonial antiracist feminist, and a member of the Paris-based collective Decolonizing the Arts.

Kader Attia (b. 1970), has developed a dynamic practice that reflects on the aesthetics and ethics of different cultures and interrogates the concept of repair as a constant in human nature, about which the Western and non-Western worlds have always had opposing visions. In 2016 he founded La Colonie in Paris, a space for decolonizing discourses that extends his praxis from representation to action.
