While some cry, others sell tissues, a monologue disguised as a broken dialogue, addresses the viewers while flying through an intertwined landscape of personal, historical, and scientific anecdotes. Through this performance, the artist explores the contingency of darkness, not as the absence of space, but rather its totality, while artificial light crashes into an amalgamation of temporalities and rationalities.

Mario Santanilla (b. 1991, Bogotá)’s practice explores the optics of being. Guided by his research on architecture, screen-based technologies, and storytelling, he explores how these devices condition behavior and represent social realities. His practice moves across mediums, rummaging different layers of space while questioning the conventions of photography, video, sound, and installation. Santanilla’s work has been presented at Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE (2019-2020); Espacio Odeón, Bogotá (2018–2019); ArteCámara & Ciclo Prisma, ARTBO, Bogotá (2016 and 2017); FLORA ars+natura, Bogotá (2013 and 2017); and CAMPO, Bogotá (2016); among others. He also participated in the 2017-18 Home Workspace Program at Ashkal Alwan, Beirut and the Escuela Flora at Flora ars+natura, Bogotá (2016).
